What Does Your Dream Need to Come True?

Do you have a “someday” dream that’s ready for action? A shooting star that needs fuel?

Acting on our dreams is highly vulnerable. But when the time is right, it’s essential.

If you’re ready to take action on a dream, here’s a helpful question to ask: What does your dream need to come true?

I'm acting on three Big Dreams this year. One needs external support, compassion, and surrender. Another requires a lot of research to learn a new thing. And the third is all about showing up consistently without a plan and doing one small thing at a time. These dreams may take awhile, so I'm committed to enjoying the process.

Here are 10 things all dreams need to come true:

  1. Faith
I believe my wildest dreams can come true, and I will return to this belief after grieving setbacks. There are higher powers conspiring to support me, and I accept this invisible help with gratitude.

  2. Devotion
I commit my time and energy by showing up consistently for my dreams with my full presence, heart, and brain power.

  3. Boundaries
I vow to turn down commitments that take time and energy away from pursuing these dreams, to clear unnecessary tasks and expired goals to make room, and to fiercely protect my dreams from haters and detours.

  4. Support
I won’t hold this burden alone. I will say my dreams out loud to those who uplift me and hold back from sharing with those who make me feel small or misunderstood. When I don’t have all the ingredients for my recipe, I will ask a neighbor. When things get hard, I will ask for support. When things go well, I will ask for celebration.

  5. Alignment
I promise to keep checking in to see if my actions are in alignment with my body, capacity, and soul’s longings. I accept that my dreams might change, evolve, or need to be let go. I will keep listening and adjusting to my truth with humility.

  6. Patience
I know this may take awhile, and I won’t allow the pressure to push me beyond my limits. I have plenty of time to explore, make mistakes, course-correct, gain experience, and keep trying. I can be unrushed and unrelenting at the same time.

  7. Urgency
When I know it’s time to shift from dreaming to acting, I will light a fire and take action swiftly in the face of my fears. I know life is short, and it’s time to have what I want.

  8. Surrender
I acknowledge how much is outside my control. I will do my best not to worry about things I can't change. I will focus on what I can do and surrender to the mystery of everything else.

  9. Courage
I will hold loving space for the parts of me that are terrified as I keep moving forward. I will show up with vulnerability and be brave enough to fight for what matters most.

  10. Abundance
I promise not to shrink from what I truly desire. I will be hungry and discerning and unapologetic as I go for my dreams. It’s okay to want it all and want it now.

Give your dream life today. Say it out loud to someone who respects it. Take a deep breath and a first step. You've got this.

What else does your dream need to come true?

  • Is there a first step you need support in order to make?

  • Is there a fear you need to push through?

  • Is there a list of questions you need to answer?

  • Is there something you need to quit or let go to make room for your dream?
